UK Cardboard Recycling

Business Cardboard Recycling Services

Cardboard builds up quickly in shops, warehouses, offices, factories, and hospitality businesses. Boxes, packaging, sheets, and clean corrugated card take up valuable space if they are not flattened, baled, or collected regularly.

Business Waste Ltd provides free cardboard bins and scheduled collections across the UK. We can also supply cages, loaders, RoRo containers, balers, and compactors for sites producing larger volumes. High-volume businesses may qualify for cardboard recycling rebates when the material is clean, dry, and prepared to the right standard. We’ll check your volume and setup before explaining the options.

Cardboard recycling collection process

  1. Tell us about your cardboard waste

Share your business type, volume of cardboard, space on site, and collection needs. We send back a tailored quote within one hour.

  2. Free bin delivery

We deliver the right size and number of cardboard bins to your site. No hire fees, no delivery charges, no hidden costs.

  3. Fill and store the bins

Your team fills the bins with clean and dry cardboard. Keeping cardboard clean, dry, and separate protects the fibres and gives it the best chance of being recycled.

  4. Scheduled collections

Our licensed carriers collect your cardboard on the agreed schedule and take it directly to approved recycling facilities. You receive Duty of Care documentation and waste transfer records where required.

Cardboard collections without
the storage problems

Loose boxes take up space, block access routes, and quickly fill general waste bins. Wet or food-contaminated cardboard can also be rejected by recyclers, which means it may need to go through a more expensive residual waste route.

Business Waste Ltd supplies the right containers for your volume and arranges ongoing collections through licensed carriers. Clean cardboard is sent to authorised recycling facilities, such as paper mills or materials recovery facilities.

You’ll have one point of contact for bins, collections, and paperwork. If your business produces larger amounts, we can also check whether balers and cardboard rebates would reduce your overall waste costs.

Business Waste LTD works with a vetted local waste collection network across the UK to secure competitive prices for your business. All materials are collected by licensed carriers and recycled at authorised UK facilities.

This helps you cut costs, stay compliant, and hit your sustainability targets without adding work for your team.

Cardboard recycling rebates

Cardboard bins and equipment by
waste volume

The right setup depends on how quickly cardboard builds up, how much space you have, and how often you need collections. Small sites may only need a wheelie bin, while warehouses, retailers, and manufacturers may need cages, loaders, RoRos, balers, or compactors.

Our cardboard container options:

  • Wheelie bins for smaller loose volumes
  • Cages or pallet boxes for bulky flattened boxes
  • FELs for regular higher volumes
  • RoRos for very large loose volumes and clear-outs
  • Balers for regular clean cardboard that can be compacted
  • Compactors where reducing bulky material and collection frequency is the main goal

Businesses producing regular volumes of clean, dry cardboard may qualify for recycling rebates. Eligibility depends on the cardboard grade, weight, contamination level, storage method, and current recovered-paper market.

Baled corrugated cardboard often has stronger rebate potential because it is easier to store, weigh, and transport. Business Waste Ltd can supply balers or compactors and check whether your cardboard meets current qualification criteria.

Bin options for cardboard disposal

Free bins for cardboard waste

We supply a range of bins for cardboard, all delivered for free:

  • 240 litre wheelie bins: suitable for small offices, shops, cafes, and sites producing a few flattened boxes
  • 360 litre wheelie bins: useful where cardboard builds up regularly but storage space is limited
  • 660 litre wheelie bins: suitable for medium-volume retail, hospitality, office, and light-industrial sites
  • 1100 litre wheelie bins: better for larger premises producing regular packaging and delivery boxes

These are ideal for clean and dry cardboard from offices, retailers, hospitality, warehouses, and light industrial sites.

Larger storage and high-volume options

For businesses generating significant volumes, we can provide:

  • Cages: hold flattened boxes without compacting them and make it easy to see when a collection is needed
  • Pallet boxes: useful for clean packaging cardboard and loose sheets in warehouses or production areas
  • Front End Loaders (FELs): suitable for regular higher volumes where the site has room and vehicle access
  • Roll-on roll-off containers (ROROs): useful for major clear-outs or very high loose-cardboard volumes
  • Balers: compress clean cardboard into dense bales that are easier to store and may qualify for rebates
  • Compactors: reduce bulky waste volumes where storage space and collection frequency are the main concerns

Your account manager will recommend the best setup to keep the service efficient, safe, and cost-effective.

Cardboard recycling rules and paperwork

Workplaces in England must keep paper and cardboard separate from general waste under Simpler Recycling. The rules have applied to workplaces with ten or more full-time equivalent employees since 31 March 2025. Micro-firms have until 31 March 2027.

Paper and cardboard may also need to be collected separately from plastic, metal, and glass, depending on the collection arrangement. Keeping it apart protects the fibre from food, liquids, and other contamination.

Business Waste Ltd can provide separate cardboard bins, scheduled collections, and Duty of Care paperwork for your site.

Under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, businesses have a Duty of Care for the waste they produce. This includes storing cardboard securely, using a registered carrier, describing the waste correctly, and keeping waste transfer records.

Business Waste Ltd provides:

  • Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 guidance
  • Guidance regarding the Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • Duty of Care documentation
  • Simpler Recycling legislation and separation rules
  • Bin labels and separation guidance

Our service keeps your business protected, documented, and audit-ready.

Cardboard Waste FAQs

  • bin shapes icon How is cardboard disposed of and recycled?

Cardboard is collected, sorted, shredded, pulped, and turned into new packaging, boxes, and paper products. It must be clean and dry to be recycled.

  • bin shapes icon What bins are required for cardboard disposal?

Most businesses use bins ranging from 240 to 1100 litres. High-volume sites use balers, FELs, cages, or ROROs.

  • bin shapes icon Where does cardboard waste go?

Your cardboard is sent to authorised UK recycling facilities, paper mills, or Materials Recovery Facilities. It is never sent to landfill.

  • bin shapes icon Can wet or contaminated cardboard be recycled?

Cardboard with food residue, oils, or sustained water damage cannot be processed by paper mills as moisture and contamination break down the fibre and contaminate the rest of the batch. Pizza boxes with grease staining, liquid soaked corrugate, and wax coated boxes typically need to go into general waste rather than the cardboard stream.
