Recycling
Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton is a large metropolitan borough in the west Midlands. In 2000 it became a city, which covers an expanse of 26.81 square miles. In mid 2014, it was estimated as having a total population of 254,400. This saw it ranked 59th in size out of the 326 districts in England.

It is an area steeped in history and cultural significance. In 659 it is believed that King Wulfhere of Mercia decided to establish an abbey of St Mary at Wolverhampton. It is also in this area where battles took place during the Saxon period and Wolverhampton features in the 1086 Domesday Book. In the 1800s, Queen Victoria paid a visit to Wolverhampton and during the Irish Potato Famine, many people from Wales and Ireland immigrated to the city.

During the late 1800s and 1900s, Wolverhampton was well known for its bicycle manufacturing industry, although none of the 200 companies that existed are still present today. The city sits northwest of its much larger neighbour, Birmingham. On the north and west borders fall the countryside of Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Trust
Business Waste

With recycling costing much less to the community than residual or refuse bin waste, Wolverhampton has been pushing hard to improve recycling efforts across the area. They are also working towards the national recycling target of hitting 50% by 2020. In 2010/11, the percentage of household waste sent for reuse, recycling or composting for Wolverhampton was at 36%. By 2014/15, this had risen notably to 44.1%. By July 2016 the areas recycling performance was at 48%. Wolverhampton is on target to meet recycling targets, if not exceed them.

Got a
Question?

  • Can I add an additional bin to my service?

Yes, of course. We can provide extra bins for new waste streams to encourage recycling. Or if you’re simply producing more waste of the same type, we can add an extra or larger bin to your delivery and collection services if you’re at capacity.

  • Do you supply a duty of care certificate?

Yes, we provide a duty of care certificate (also known as a waste transfer note (WTN)) free of charge as part of your service agreement. This is included for free every time we collect any type of waste from your premises. Duty of care certificates are a legal requirement and licensed waste carriers can complete them for free – so you should never be charged for one.

Find out more about them in our guide to waste transfer notes.

  • How often will my bin be emptied?

We offer our customers a choice of daily, weekly, or fortnightly collections – so your bins are emptied as often as you want. Our expert team can advise on the correct waste collection schedule based on the type and amount of waste you produce and your business needs – such as your bin storage space and location.

  • What time will my bin be collected?

Bin collection times vary depending on your location, waste type, number and size of bins, and other factors. We work with all our customers to ensure your waste is always collected on time when it’s suitable for you and the licensed waste carrier. We can work around access times to arrange collections at convenient times.

  • What type of wheelie bins are available?

A range of two and four-wheel bins are available to store all sorts of waste on your premises. Explore our bins to see all available bins and information about what types and amounts of waste they can hold.

For any questions and answers about wheelie bin weight limits, sizes, locks, and anything else – read our bin FAQ guide.

  • How can we reduce our waste?

There are many ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce as individuals and businesses. A waste audit can highlight where you’re producing lots of waste as a starting place to cut down. Simple steps to reduce waste include efficient purchasing, buying reusable products, and recycling as much as possible. For more tips, read our guide about how to reduce waste.

If you have specific questions about reducing a certain type of waste, find the relevant page in Your Waste.

  • Do you collect any type of waste?

Yes! We can collect a wide range of waste types in various amounts from all sorts of businesses. From general waste to popular glass, paper, and packaging recycling – as well as specialist waste streams such as clinical, hazardous, and pharmaceutical waste – we work with licensed waste carriers able to safely collect all such types.

  • Is Business Waste ISO certified?

Yes, Business Waste has received Alcumus ISOQAR certification for:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – Quality management systems
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental management systems

These are both in the scope of registration for the provision of waste management brokerage.

  • What is ISO certification and why is it important?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental group that uses experts to set global standards for providing innovation and solutions to worldwide challenges. ISO certification confirms a management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure meets the requirements for standardisation and quality assurance.

ISO certification is provided by a third party – in our case Alcumus ISOQAR, which provides UKAS accredited ISO certification. The standards provide benchmarks for businesses to meet, ensuring achieving ISO certification demonstrates a well-run, stable business that’s ready to grow. There are more than 20,000 management standards, but the two we’ve achieved provide the following benefits:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – helps put our customers first.
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – reduces our environmental impact.
