Waste Disposal
Dundee

With its myriad of industries and its position as the fourth most popular retail destination in Scotland, waste collections and effective recycling operations are essential for Dundee businesses. Just the city’s two major shopping centres – the Overgate Centre and the Wellgate Centre – create vast amounts of waste that require disposal or recycling. There is also a plethora of retail outlets in the likes of the Kingsway Retail Parks and the Gallagher Retail Park, along with countless other companies which could benefit from our cost-effective and easy-to-manage recycling solutions for glass, plastics, card and paper.

Dundee

he city of Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland and the UK’s 51st most populated built-up area. Around 148,000 people call it home and it has the second highest population density of anywhere in Scotland. It was once known for being a city dedicated to ‘jute, jam and journalism’, because of its historic industry affiliations but today it is renowned for its technological and biomedical industries.

Dundee accounts for no less than ten per cent of Britain’s digital entertainment industry and was named as Britain’s first UNESCO City of Design thanks to its contributions to a myriad of sectors including video games, comics and medical research. The city is home to two universities, Abertay University and the University of Dundee, and, since 2001, has been involved in a three-decade masterplan worth £1 billion aimed at reconnecting the city centre with the waterfront. This includes the opening of an £80 million Dundee Victoria & Albert Museum.

Trust
Business Waste

These rejuvenation plans and the city’s position as a leader in design and medical research mean that there is a continuing and growing need for effective management of both standard commercial waste and the collection and disposal of specialist and even hazardous materials. Business Waste is on-hand to help these businesses, whether they are one of the 395 large employers with at least 250 staff or the many small to medium-sized enterprises thriving in the area. There is no doubt that there is a growing need for commercial waste services given that the number of enterprises registered in the city increased by almost 20.9 per cent between 2011 and 2015.

Got a
Question?

  • Can I add an additional bin to my service?

Yes, of course. We can provide extra bins for new waste streams to encourage recycling. Or if you’re simply producing more waste of the same type, we can add an extra or larger bin to your delivery and collection services if you’re at capacity.

  • Do you supply a duty of care certificate?

Yes, we provide a duty of care certificate (also known as a waste transfer note (WTN)) free of charge as part of your service agreement. This is included for free every time we collect any type of waste from your premises. Duty of care certificates are a legal requirement and licensed waste carriers can complete them for free – so you should never be charged for one.

Find out more about them in our guide to waste transfer notes.

  • How often will my bin be emptied?

We offer our customers a choice of daily, weekly, or fortnightly collections – so your bins are emptied as often as you want. Our expert team can advise on the correct waste collection schedule based on the type and amount of waste you produce and your business needs – such as your bin storage space and location.

  • What time will my bin be collected?

Bin collection times vary depending on your location, waste type, number and size of bins, and other factors. We work with all our customers to ensure your waste is always collected on time when it’s suitable for you and the licensed waste carrier. We can work around access times to arrange collections at convenient times.

  • What type of wheelie bins are available?

A range of two and four-wheel bins are available to store all sorts of waste on your premises. Explore our bins to see all available bins and information about what types and amounts of waste they can hold.

For any questions and answers about wheelie bin weight limits, sizes, locks, and anything else – read our bin FAQ guide.

  • How can we reduce our waste?

There are many ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce as individuals and businesses. A waste audit can highlight where you’re producing lots of waste as a starting place to cut down. Simple steps to reduce waste include efficient purchasing, buying reusable products, and recycling as much as possible. For more tips, read our guide about how to reduce waste.

If you have specific questions about reducing a certain type of waste, find the relevant page in Your Waste.

  • Do you collect any type of waste?

Yes! We can collect a wide range of waste types in various amounts from all sorts of businesses. From general waste to popular glass, paper, and packaging recycling – as well as specialist waste streams such as clinical, hazardous, and pharmaceutical waste – we work with licensed waste carriers able to safely collect all such types.

  • Is Business Waste ISO certified?

Yes, Business Waste has received Alcumus ISOQAR certification for:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – Quality management systems
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental management systems

These are both in the scope of registration for the provision of waste management brokerage.

  • What is ISO certification and why is it important?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental group that uses experts to set global standards for providing innovation and solutions to worldwide challenges. ISO certification confirms a management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure meets the requirements for standardisation and quality assurance.

ISO certification is provided by a third party – in our case Alcumus ISOQAR, which provides UKAS accredited ISO certification. The standards provide benchmarks for businesses to meet, ensuring achieving ISO certification demonstrates a well-run, stable business that’s ready to grow. There are more than 20,000 management standards, but the two we’ve achieved provide the following benefits:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – helps put our customers first.
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – reduces our environmental impact.
