Waste Collection
Lancashire
The percentage of municipal waste sent to landfill for Lancashire in 2015/16 was 30%, a great improvement on previous years. This is why our zero waste to landfill policy is a useful policy for your business to follow, in order to maintain good standing in the local area. Lancashire district councils set their own collection days, with little room for flexibility, but with Business Waste you can arrange your own collections and waste disposal routine to suit the needs of the company. You will receive an in-house assessment and be provided a bin as well as a schedule to help you to manage your own time and employees.
Waste Disposal
Lancashire
The 2015/16 statistics for recycling in Lancashire was 51.5%, ahead of the 46.1% for the North West as a whole. The various Lancashire boroughs are currently working together to ensure that recycling stays present in the minds of their residents and that local targets, such as recycling 61% of all waste by 2020, are being reached. Business Waste promotes a zero waste to landfill policy and will visit your company to discuss your needs and waste management options. We can help you to recycle better, providing different bins to allow recyclables to be separated from other waste, reducing your carbon footprint and improving your reputation in your community.
Recycling
Lancashire
Lancashire is a county with a population of 1,478,000, meaning that there is a large population and a more pressing need for appropriate waste management and laws within it. Lancashire is broken up into boroughs, with Preston as its centre for administrative processes and Lancaster as its county town. It is important that these boroughs work together to continue to improve the economy and growth of the county, and this is something that they are doing in all areas.
Whilst Lancashire was a major centre for industry and commerce from the dawn of the Industrial Revolution and throughout the 19th Century, major cities Manchester and Liverpool broke off in 1974 when there was a huge boundary shift, and this has changed in more recent years. Lancashire boasts a number of major businesses, mainly in the manufacturing and building industries. The largest private sector in the area is the defence industry and nuclear power is a strong economic driving force as well.
With the county doing well in terms of industry and a new funding programme (The Lancashire Enterprise Partnership) set to bring in 17,000 new homes and 20,000 new jobs, dealing with the waste that these businesses and homes create is critical.

Question?
-
Can I add an additional bin to my service?
Yes, of course. We can provide extra bins for new waste streams to encourage recycling. Or if you’re simply producing more waste of the same type, we can add an extra or larger bin to your delivery and collection services if you’re at capacity.
-
Do you supply a duty of care certificate?
Yes, we provide a duty of care certificate (also known as a waste transfer note (WTN)) free of charge as part of your service agreement. This is included for free every time we collect any type of waste from your premises. Duty of care certificates are a legal requirement and licensed waste carriers can complete them for free – so you should never be charged for one.
Find out more about them in our guide to waste transfer notes.

How often will my bin be emptied?
We offer our customers a choice of daily, weekly, or fortnightly collections – so your bins are emptied as often as you want. Our expert team can advise on the correct waste collection schedule based on the type and amount of waste you produce and your business needs – such as your bin storage space and location.

What time will my bin be collected?
Bin collection times vary depending on your location, waste type, number and size of bins, and other factors. We work with all our customers to ensure your waste is always collected on time when it’s suitable for you and the licensed waste carrier. We can work around access times to arrange collections at convenient times.

Is Business Waste ISO certified?
Yes, Business Waste has received Alcumus ISOQAR certification for:
- ISO 9001: 2015 – Quality management systems
- ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental management systems
These are both in the scope of registration for the provision of waste management brokerage.
-
What is ISO certification and why is it important?
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental group that uses experts to set global standards for providing innovation and solutions to worldwide challenges. ISO certification confirms a management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure meets the requirements for standardisation and quality assurance.
ISO certification is provided by a third party – in our case Alcumus ISOQAR, which provides UKAS accredited ISO certification. The standards provide benchmarks for businesses to meet, ensuring achieving ISO certification demonstrates a well-run, stable business that’s ready to grow. There are more than 20,000 management standards, but the two we’ve achieved provide the following benefits:
- ISO 9001: 2015 – helps put our customers first.
- ISO 14001: 2015 – reduces our environmental impact.
