We strive to help Glasgow meet its waste targets by aiming for zero landfill with all of the waste we dispose of. Your waste will be organised into recyclable and non-recyclable waste. In our view, everything that can be recycled should be recycled and, if you use our services, we can ensure that this happens.
As the largest city in Scotland and the biggest seaport in Britain, Glasgow is a cultural hub of activity and excitement. It is a perfect place for businesses and tourism to thrive in Scotland. The city covers an area of 1,040 square miles with a population of just under one million Glaswegians and around 17,000 business and commercial organisations. With so many businesses, tourists and residents in one city it is important that Glasgow is kept clean and it continues to be enjoyed.
With an European Union target of 50% waste recycled by 2020, a local scheme “Zero Waste”, the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 and Scottish Government targets of no more than 5% waste going to landfill by 2025, it is clear that Scotland is aiming to play its part in a green future. Currently, Glasgow sends to landfill over 165,000 tonnes of household waste alone, 50,000 tonnes of this is made up of food waste. While the Council’s recent campaigns have promoted an increase in recycling for its residents, there is a lot more that businesses and companies can do to help move closer to the imposed greener targets.
