Waste Disposal
Bedfordshire

With landfill facilities depleting rapidly, the UK is increasingly prioritising recycling. The European Union have imposed a target on the UK of 50% of waste to be recycled by the year 2020. Currently, the UK recycles around 44% of all waste produced, despite having the technology and facilities available to recycle more, such as those in Bedfordshire.

With an increase in residents recycling their household waste, it is vital that businesses within Bedfordshire play their part in a greener future as well. Whilst not all of the waste produced by businesses and commercial organisations can be recycled, a lot of it can. At Business Waste, we offer a wide variety of waste management solutions to deal with all forms of waste, including: food waste, office and confidential waste, pharmaceutical and toxic waste, construction and industrial waste and all forms of general waste.

Various materials such as plastics, glass, metals, building materials, paper and cardboard, can all be recycled. Even waste which may be believed to be a non-recyclable can be reused, such as bicycles, printer cartridges, batteries, clothing items and even paint.

We understand that you may not have the time to sort your waste or to meet the local Bedfordshire collection service times and dates. Therefore, we work alongside the current recycling facilities in Bedfordshire to ensure that all waste is dealt with locally, further reducing your impact on the environment.

Recycling
Bedfordshire

The historical county of Bedfordshire is home to two of the most densely populated cities in the UK, Luton and Bedford. Outside of its urban areas, the county is home to some significant areas of environmental interest, such as the chalk Chiltern Hills and the Greensand Ridge. Bedfordshire also boasts popular attractions, including Woburn Safari Park and Whipsnade Zoo to name a few. Filled with idyllic English villages and grand manor houses, Bedfordshire is steeped with history. It is important that the county of Bedfordshire is kept clean, making this an attractive place to visit and live so that businesses can continue to thrive.

The county of Bedfordshire has seen redevelopment of the available waste management centres in the area to provide first-class services to locals. The recent redevelopment of the recycling centre in Ampthill offers easy-to-use facilities for the central Bedfordshire area. This centre offers those based outside of the major cities of Luton and Bedford a chance to recycle without travelling too far. The Central Bedfordshire council has also extended recycling centre opening times, demonstrating the county’s commitment to using green waste disposal alternatives.

Trust
Business Waste

A number of recycling centres surround the urban areas of Luton and Bedford. Located close to the airport, the Eaton Green Road tip and recycling centre facilitates the disposal of waste from the city of Luton and the surrounding area. Further North near Bedford, the local centre is based close by Priory Country Park, and for those living further away from the cities, there is a number of recycling centres and green waste disposal facilities.

However, reaching these facilities is outside the scope of many corporations. To help, Business Waste offers a business waste management service to support local Bedfordshire businesses to continue their success.

Got a
Question?

  • Can I add an additional bin to my service?

Yes, of course. We can provide extra bins for new waste streams to encourage recycling. Or if you’re simply producing more waste of the same type, we can add an extra or larger bin to your delivery and collection services if you’re at capacity.

  • Do you supply a duty of care certificate?

Yes, we provide a duty of care certificate (also known as a waste transfer note (WTN)) free of charge as part of your service agreement. This is included for free every time we collect any type of waste from your premises. Duty of care certificates are a legal requirement and licensed waste carriers can complete them for free – so you should never be charged for one.

Find out more about them in our guide to waste transfer notes.

  • How often will my bin be emptied?

We offer our customers a choice of daily, weekly, or fortnightly collections – so your bins are emptied as often as you want. Our expert team can advise on the correct waste collection schedule based on the type and amount of waste you produce and your business needs – such as your bin storage space and location.

  • What time will my bin be collected?

Bin collection times vary depending on your location, waste type, number and size of bins, and other factors. We work with all our customers to ensure your waste is always collected on time when it’s suitable for you and the licensed waste carrier. We can work around access times to arrange collections at convenient times.

  • What type of wheelie bins are available?

A range of two and four-wheel bins are available to store all sorts of waste on your premises. Explore our bins to see all available bins and information about what types and amounts of waste they can hold.

For any questions and answers about wheelie bin weight limits, sizes, locks, and anything else – read our bin FAQ guide.

  • How can we reduce our waste?

There are many ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce as individuals and businesses. A waste audit can highlight where you’re producing lots of waste as a starting place to cut down. Simple steps to reduce waste include efficient purchasing, buying reusable products, and recycling as much as possible. For more tips, read our guide about how to reduce waste.

If you have specific questions about reducing a certain type of waste, find the relevant page in Your Waste.

  • Do you collect any type of waste?

Yes! We can collect a wide range of waste types in various amounts from all sorts of businesses. From general waste to popular glass, paper, and packaging recycling – as well as specialist waste streams such as clinical, hazardous, and pharmaceutical waste – we work with licensed waste carriers able to safely collect all such types.

  • Is Business Waste ISO certified?

Yes, Business Waste has received Alcumus ISOQAR certification for:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – Quality management systems
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental management systems

These are both in the scope of registration for the provision of waste management brokerage.

  • What is ISO certification and why is it important?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental group that uses experts to set global standards for providing innovation and solutions to worldwide challenges. ISO certification confirms a management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure meets the requirements for standardisation and quality assurance.

ISO certification is provided by a third party – in our case Alcumus ISOQAR, which provides UKAS accredited ISO certification. The standards provide benchmarks for businesses to meet, ensuring achieving ISO certification demonstrates a well-run, stable business that’s ready to grow. There are more than 20,000 management standards, but the two we’ve achieved provide the following benefits:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – helps put our customers first.
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – reduces our environmental impact.
