Business Waste supplies clinical waste bins for healthcare facilities, dental practices, beauty salons and other businesses producing clinical waste. Choose from sharps bins, colour-coded containers, clinical waste bags and larger wheeled bins, with separate collections arranged for the waste streams your organisation produces.

Tell us what clinical waste you generate, roughly how much and how regularly it needs collecting. We’ll confirm the appropriate containers for your site, arrange delivery and set up your clinical waste bin collection.

Standard clinical waste bins are supplied without rental or delivery charges, so you pay for the agreed collection service.

How does clinical waste collection work?

  1. Tell us what clinical waste you produce

Provide the waste streams, quantities and preferred collection frequency. Let us know whether you produce sharps, infectious waste or waste contaminated with medicines.

  2. We confirm the appropriate containers

We’ll arrange suitable colour-coded bins, clinical waste bags, sharps containers or larger wheeled bins based on your requirements.

  3. Your clinical bins are delivered

Place the containers at suitable points around your premises and keep each waste stream separate using the agreed colour coding and labels.

  4. We arrange collection

A registered waste carrier collects the agreed clinical waste streams for transfer to an appropriately authorised treatment or disposal facility.

Clinical waste bins with Business Waste

We provide free clinical waste bins anywhere in the UK. There are no delivery or rental costs, so you’ll only pay for collection.

We can also arrange a one-off collection for occasional clinical waste, such as waste produced during temporary clinics, treatment sessions or short-term healthcare activities. Sites producing clinical waste regularly can choose an ongoing collection schedule.

Types of clinical waste bins

The clinical waste bins you need depend on the waste you’re producing. We supply a range of containers for separate clinical waste streams, including sharps bins, dental waste containers, clinical waste bags and larger wheeled bins for storing filled bags before collection.

Many medical waste bins are colour-coded to help separate streams. Find the right medical waste bin, bag, or container for your organisation:

  • Sharps bins

Rigid, colour-coded sharps containers for needles, syringes, scalpels and other sharp instruments. Lid colours depend on the waste and any medicinal contamination.

  • Dental waste bins

Specialist containers for dental amalgam and other dental waste that requires separate storage and collection.

    DENTIST
  • Clinical waste bags

Colour-coded clinical waste bags for suitable infectious, non-infectious and specialist healthcare waste streams.

What is a clinical waste bin?

A clinical waste bin is a container used to store healthcare waste before collection. Different containers are designed for different waste streams, including infectious materials, sharps and medicine-contaminated waste.

Clinical waste bins range from small pedal-operated containers and rigid sharps bins to larger wheeled bins that hold sealed clinical waste bags. Colour coding and labelling help identify the correct waste stream and prevent different types of clinical waste from mixing.

Clinical waste bin sizes

The sizes and capacities of bins for medical waste vary depending on the type of waste they’re designed to store and their colour.

Small clinical waste bins are useful to position where waste is produced, such as treatment rooms, dental surgeries and consultation areas. Pedal-operated bins provide hands-free access for suitable bagged waste, while rigid sharps containers can be positioned close to where needles and other sharp instruments are used.

Larger wheeled clinical bins, including 240L containers, can store sealed clinical waste bags before collection. The appropriate bin, liner and labelling depend on the waste stream and collection requirements.

For sites producing higher volumes of suitable bagged clinical waste, larger four-wheel containers may provide additional storage capacity. An 1100L bin can hold around 18 standard waste bags, depending on the bag size, waste type and container supplied.

What goes in a clinical waste bin?

What goes in a clinical waste bin depends on the waste classification and the container supplied. Infectious dressings, contaminated PPE, sharps, medicines and anatomical waste may all require different colour-coded bags or rigid containers.

Clinical waste bin colours

Clinical waste bins and bags are colour-coded according to the waste stream they hold. Depending on the container, the colour may appear on the bin, lid, label or bag inside it. The examples below follow the system used in England, so you should confirm local arrangements if you’re based elsewhere in the UK.

  • Yellow: Infectious waste with medicinal or chemical contamination, using the appropriate bag or container.
  • Red: Anatomical waste requiring designated packaging and collection.
  • Purple: Cytotoxic and cytostatic waste, with separate rigid containers for relevant sharps or medicines.
  • White: Specialist dental amalgam waste containers.
  • Orange: Infectious waste without medicinal or chemical contamination, using the appropriate orange-coded bag or container.
  • Yellow and black: Non-infectious offensive waste, using the appropriate tiger-striped bag.

Yellow clinical waste bins

Yellow clinical waste bins are used as part of the collection setup for infectious waste that also contains medicines or chemicals. The appropriate container depends on whether the waste is a suitable soft material, a sharp item or another material requiring rigid containment.

Yellow clinical waste bins are available in different sizes to suit where and how the waste is produced:

  • Small pedal bins and sack holders for treatment rooms, surgeries and patient-care areas
  • Yellow clinical waste bags for suitable soft infectious waste
  • 240-litre wheeled bins for securely storing filled bags before collection
  • Rigid yellow containers for waste that cannot safely go into a bag

It’s important that waste is correctly classified, placed in the right colour-coded container and stored securely before collection by a registered waste carrier.

Orange clinical waste bins

An orange clinical waste bin is used as part of a collection setup for infectious waste that does not contain medicines or chemicals. Depending on your site’s requirements, this may be an orange bin or sack holder lined with the correct orange clinical waste bag.

We can arrange suitable containers for treatment rooms, surgeries and other healthcare settings, with separate collections for your orange infectious waste stream.

The exact colour and design of the outer bin will be confirmed during your setup.
