About Bramley Dental

Established in 1988, Bramley Dental provides NHS and private dentistry to patients across Rotherham and the surrounding area. Its team offers routine examinations and preventative care alongside treatments such as fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges and dental implants.

The practice operates seven treatment surgeries, supported by reception, administrative and staff facilities. Each area has different waste requirements, from used clinical materials and sharps to confidential paperwork, packaging and everyday general waste.

Maintaining appropriate waste arrangements is an important part of running a busy dental practice. Different materials must be separated, stored and collected correctly without disrupting patient appointments or the work of the clinical team.

The waste management challenge

Dental practices generate a wider range of waste than many other healthcare businesses. Materials produced during treatment can include clinical waste, used sharps and dental amalgam, each requiring specific handling and disposal arrangements.

There are also waste streams generated outside the treatment rooms. Reception and administrative teams handle confidential paperwork, cleaning contractors produce their own waste, and staff facilities generate general waste, food waste and recyclable packaging.

Managing these materials through separate contractors can create additional work for practice managers. We’re coordinating collection schedules, containers and documentation to ensure waste is stored safely and removed when required.

For Bramley Dental, the next stage is to bring these services together through one waste management provider.

Our solution

Business Waste currently manages cleaning contractor waste and confidential waste collections for Bramley Dental. This existing relationship provides a foundation for expanding the service across the practice.

The next stage will introduce clinical waste collections, sharps disposal, dental amalgam exchanges and sanitary waste management. General waste, dry mixed recycling and food waste are also due to be handled.

Each waste stream will require suitable containers and a collection schedule that reflects the quantities produced. By coordinating these services, we aim to make waste management more straightforward for the practice while ensuring specialist materials are handled through appropriate disposal routes.

The expanded arrangement will also give Bramley Dental a single point of contact for its wider waste requirements, reducing the need to coordinate multiple suppliers.

Specialist waste we handle

Managing dental amalgam and hazardous waste

Dental amalgam requires particular attention because it contains mercury. Unlike ordinary clinical waste, amalgam residues and contaminated materials must be collected separately and sent for appropriate specialist treatment.

Our waste management arrangement will include amalgam exchanges, providing a dedicated route for this waste stream. This will involve exchanging amalgam collection units, with the collected material transferred for appropriate treatment.

We will also arrange the relevant waste documentation to support the practice’s Duty of Care and provide traceability for hazardous waste collections.

Supporting clinical waste segregation

With seven treatment surgeries in operation, Bramley Dental needs an effective system for separating the different materials produced during patient care.

The planned clinical waste service will provide appropriate containers for the waste types generated, including:

  • Dedicated sharps units for used needles and other suitable sharp instruments.
  • Other clinical materials will be classified and separated according to their contamination and disposal requirements.

We’re working closely with the practice to establish suitable collection frequencies and storage arrangements. The aim is to make waste segregation straightforward for dentists and dental nurses while ensuring that clinical materials are removed through the correct disposal routes.

Confidential waste and patient information

Protecting patient information is an important responsibility for every dental practice. Alongside clinical records, administrative teams may handle printed correspondence, appointment information and other documents containing personal details.

We provide confidential waste collection for Bramley Dental, giving the practice a dedicated service to securely dispose of sensitive paperwork.

Keeping confidential materials separate from general waste helps support the practice’s existing data protection procedures. It also gives administrative staff a straightforward disposal route for documents that are no longer required.

Managing everyday waste throughout the practice

Not all waste produced by a dental practice requires specialist treatment. Reception areas, staff facilities and cleaning activities also generate ordinary commercial waste that needs regular collection.

As part of the planned service expansion, we’ll introduce streams for:

  • General waste
  • Dry mixed recycling
  • Food waste
  • Sanitary waste

Clean paper, cardboard, plastic and cans can be separated for recycling, while food waste from staff facilities will have its own collection arrangement. Dedicated sanitary waste services will also support the upkeep of patient and staff washrooms.

Bringing these services together will allow Bramley Dental to manage specialist and everyday waste through one coordinated arrangement.

The results

Our existing partnership with Bramley Dental has established a reliable waste collection service, supported by straightforward communication and account management.

Once the additional services are in place, the practice will benefit from fewer separate waste arrangements, a consistent point of contact and collection schedules organised around the needs of the practice.

“Business Waste has provided a great service from the start. Collections are reliable, the team is friendly, and everything is straightforward to manage. Adam Cunningham has been fantastic throughout, and we’re looking forward to bringing more of our waste services under one provider.”

Looking ahead

Managing waste across a busy dental practice requires more than collecting clinical materials. Confidential paperwork, hazardous dental waste, everyday recycling and patient facilities all need suitable disposal arrangements.

Our existing relationship with Bramley Dental provides the foundation for bringing these services together. By expanding the arrangement to cover both specialist and everyday commercial waste, we aim to simplify waste management for the practice and support its team in maintaining a safe, organised environment for patients and staff.
