Bins and skips for metal waste

Scrap Metal Bins

Store any type and amount of waste metal your business produces in a separate scrap metal bin or container. This helps segregate metal materials and products at the end of their life from other waste streams, which reduces contamination risks and improves recyclability.

At Business Waste, we can provide free bins for your waste metal. There are no delivery costs or bin hire fees – you only pay for collection. Select from a wide range of scrap metal bins of various sizes suitable for everything from empty food and drink cans to old pipes, sheet metal, and manufacturing byproducts.

Scrap metal bins are available for businesses anywhere in the UK whatever your industry, company size, and the kinds and volumes of waste metal you generate. Get a free no-obligation quote for the metal waste bins your business needs and collections – call 0800 211 8390 or contact us online.

What can you put in a
scrap metal bin?

Anything made from at least 50% metal materials can be put in a scrap metal bin. This is to ensure as much metal as possible is recycled. You can combine products and items made from different metals in one bin – such as steel, aluminium, iron, copper, bronze, zinc, and any other metals.

The size of the scrap metal bin and kinds of waste your business produces may impact what you put in it. For example, a restaurant may use one to store aluminium cans, foil, and steel food tins. However, a construction company will likely use bigger containers for old metal pipes, tools, scrap parts, and large items.

Common examples of what you can put in a scrap metal bin include:

  • Empty food and drink cans
  • Clean and empty paint tins
  • Metal pipes and sheets
  • Old metal tools (including iron nails and screws)
  • Some metal appliances
  • Scrap car parts

While many electrical items contain metal elements, you should dispose of them with WEEE waste. This should still ensure the metal is removed and makes its way back to the metal recycling stream with hazardous and other materials (like plastic, glass, and ceramics) removed and disposed of safely.

Metal recycling bins

A wide range of metal recycling bins are available to suit the types and volumes of waste your organisation produces. Be aware of any weight limits for metal when choosing a bin, skip or container. Wheelie bins with two or four wheels are suitable for small amounts of scrap metal and lighter loads such as aluminium cans, foil, and tins.

Businesses that produce more substantial scrap metal typically store it in a skip. Skips come in many sizes and can hold heavier items such as pipes, sheet metal, and old metal furniture and car parts. There are various types and sizes of skips available.

Companies that generate large volumes of scrap metal often use roll on roll off containers. These are some of the biggest static waste containers available and ideal if your business regularly has lots of scrap metal to manage or large and heavy items. Sizes vary so ensure you have enough space on site.
