Sustainability at Business Waste

Sustainable Waste Management

Having a positive environmental impact has been one of the main aims of Business Waste since the start. Sustainable waste management and recycling play a big part in achieving this goal. Protecting the planet, reducing carbon emissions related to waste management, and saving our customers money in the process are important to us.

It’s our mission and responsibility to help the environment as much as possible as a leading commercial waste broker in the UK. We provide sustainable waste solutions for new and existing customers and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, such as Simpler Recycling, to manage all rubbish safely and legally.

Sustainable waste management is at the heart of everything we do, with a focus on recycling, recovery, and alternative disposal methods to keep commercial waste out of landfill. Learn more about our commitment to sustainable waste management, services, and how we’re helping businesses achieve their sustainability goals.

Sustainability pillars

To strive towards sustainability in everything we do at Business Waste, we’ve set out three sustainability pillars. These highlight our goals and focus to ensure we carry out sustainable waste practices when working with every customer. These are our core sustainability pillars:

  • 100% Landfill Diversion

We aim to divert all commercial waste collected away from landfill. This is achieved by partnering our customers with suppliers who recycle and recover waste materials, including using alternative disposal methods to landfill. These can include composting and anaerobic digestion for organic materials, energy from waste (EfW) for general waste, and incineration for clinical waste materials.

  • Circular Economy Champions

Championing the circular economy model is vital to everything we do. Helping businesses reduce the volume of waste they produce through our consultancy and waste audit services, as well as our guides to reduce waste and other resources, is essential. Our focus on recycling and recovery helps align with the circular economy model too.

  • Environmental Waste Compliance

All commercial waste is managed responsibly in line with relevant environmental regulations to protect the planet and your business. Examples include ensuring compliance with the Environmental Protection Act, Controlled Waste Regulations, Waste duty of care code of practice, and Simpler Recycling.

How Business Waste helps companies
achieve their sustainability goals

Focusing on sustainable methods of waste management in our operations helps our customers work towards and achieve their own sustainability goals. Providing a wide range of bins, bags, and containers makes it easy to separate waste materials so that as much as possible is sent for recycling and recovery.

Waste and sustainability experts can carry out site visits and detailed waste audits, alongside other consultancy services, to build a bespoke waste management plan. This can be tailored to align with your sustainability goals and focus on specific areas such as waste reduction and increasing recycling rates.

We work with our nationwide network of suppliers to source recycling and waste recovery services for specialist waste streams too. One example was our work to provide foil label recycling for a customer that ensured the materials were recycled rather than going to landfill, which was a niche service they struggled to find elsewhere.

We vet our suppliers to ensure all waste is removed by licensed waste carriers and disposed of away from landfill at authorised sites. Businesses receive a free duty of care certificate for proof and peace of mind. Our sustainability policy sets out that we comply with all laws governing the environment and take steps to continually improve environmental performance.

Sustainable waste services

We provide an array of sustainable waste services to help businesses of any size, industry, and location in the UK manage waste responsibly. This can start with a waste audit to assess the materials and volumes of waste a business produces. The results of an audit are then reviewed, and a sustainable plan is put in place.

It may focus on reducing waste at the source, improving recycling rates, and lowering your carbon footprint with bigger bins and fewer collections for an efficient and cost-effective service. Our sustainable waste services include free bins to separate materials with no delivery or hire costs – only pay for collection.
