Holiday Let Waste Collection

Business Waste arranges holiday let waste collection for self-catering cottages, apartments, lodges, Airbnbs and other short-term rental accommodation across the UK.

We can provide bins for general waste, food waste and recycling, with collections matched to guest numbers, available storage space and seasonal demand.

Waste produced through a holiday let or self-catering business must use an appropriate commercial waste arrangement rather than the household collection service. Tell us the property location, typical occupancy and waste streams you need collecting, and we’ll help set up suitable bins and a collection schedule.

Waste services for holiday lets

We can build the service around your property, guest numbers and busiest periods. This can include:

  • Routine guest waste collections for residual waste, food waste and agreed recycling streams.
  • Bins sized to your property based on occupancy, storage space and collection frequency.
  • Seasonal collection changes for school holidays, summer peaks and quieter periods.
  • One-off collections for end-of-season clear-outs, refurbishment waste or exceptional volumes where an appropriate service is available.
  • Your agreed waste streams managed through one account, rather than arranging separate routine collections independently.
  • Support reviewing your setup if guest numbers, properties or seasonal requirements change.
  • Waste Transfer Notes at no extra charge for eligible non-hazardous collections.

How does holiday let waste collection work?

  1. Tell us about your property

Provide the postcode, typical guest capacity, main waste streams and busiest times of year.

  2. We confirm suitable bins

We’ll recommend container sizes based on expected waste volumes and available storage space.

  3. Guests separate the waste

Provide clearly labelled bins for the agreed residual, food and recycling streams.

  4. We arrange collections

Registered waste carriers collect each stream according to the agreed schedule.

  5. Review the service when occupancy changes

Collection frequency or capacity can be adjusted where seasonal demand changes.

Bins for holiday lets

Business Waste can help you organise your holiday let waste collection with the right bins and sizes for easy storage and removal. We provide free bins for your property; you just pay for the collection. Larger one-off clear-outs or refurbishments may need a separate skip or bulky-waste service.

Recycling rules for holiday lets in England

Short-term rentals such as cottages and lodges are explicitly covered by Simpler Recycling in England. In-scope businesses must separate food waste, dry recyclable materials and residual waste before collection, including waste generated by guests.

Micro-firms with fewer than 10 full-time employees have until March 31st, 2027 to comply. The threshold applies to the business as a whole rather than each property you run.

Landlord waste FAQs

  • bin shapes icon How do I reduce the waste from my property?

As a holiday let owner you can encourage your guests to reduce the amount of waste that will end up in landfill. This can be achieved by simply providing a range of waste bins for them to use when in the home. Encourage them to recycle paper, cardboard, and plastics.

It’s also possible to convey a green living image by encouraging your visitors to reuse bottles, buy glass bottles instead of plastic, and to use reusable coffee cups when going out for the day. Place signs around the holiday home to remind them about recycling their waste when possible.

Food waste can also be recycled, collected, and disposed of by a waste collection service. Certain types of food waste can also be used in the holiday home’s garden. For example, coffee grounds can be used in soil and some food waste can be composted.

  • bin shapes icon Is a landlord responsible for waste?

Landlords are responsible for ensuring tenants correctly and safely dispose of their waste. Normally this is by using the relevant general waste and recycling bins provided by the local council. If any bins are damaged, stolen, or go missing, then it’s the landlord’s responsibility to sort out such an issue.

  • bin shapes icon What happens if tenants leave rubbish?

After tenants move out any rubbish left behind legally becomes commercial waste. As a landlord you must arrange proper storage, collection, and disposal of this rubbish – otherwise you could face penalties including large fines. It’s your responsibility to ensure all rubbish left by tenants is recycled where possible and collected by licensed waste carriers.
