Confidential Shredding Services
Business Waste arranges confidential shredding services for businesses across the UK with no hidden charges. We can securely destroy paper records, financial documents, personnel files, contracts, photographs and other confidential documents, with one-off or scheduled collections available.
Choose on-site shredding or secure collection for off-site destruction. We can also collect paper your organisation has already shredded, although this follows a different service and paperwork route from confidential documents that still require secure destruction.
Tell us what needs shredding, the volume and whether you need a regular service or one-off clearance. We’ll confirm the secure container, collection setup and destruction route.

How our shredding services work
-
Tell us what needs destroying
Let us know what documents or media you have, the volume and whether you need a one-off clear-out or recurring service.
-
Choose secure storage
We’ll confirm the appropriate lockable console, shredding sack, wheelie bin, archive-box arrangement or specialist media container.
-
Store confidential material securely
Keep intact documents and media in the agreed secure container until collection rather than placing them in normal paper recycling or general waste.
-
Arrange on-site or off-site destruction
Where available, material can be shredded on your premises or securely collected for destruction at a specialist facility.
-
Receive evidence of destruction
Where the service includes destruction, a Certificate of Destruction provides a record that the agreed material passed through the secure destruction process.
Document shredding services for businesses
Our secure shredding services include storage, removal, shredding, and responsible disposal of confidential waste from your business. Commercial documents we can shred include:
- HR and personnel records
- CVs and job applications
- Payroll documents
- Customer files
- Contracts
- Invoices and financial records
- Legal documents
- Medical and care records containing personal information
- Business plans
- Research files
- Meeting papers
- ID records and suitable paper-based confidential material
A Certificate of Destruction provides evidence that material passed through the agreed secure destruction service. Your dedicated account manager can help with any queries or changes to your shredding service.
On-site and off-site shredding services
On-site shredding
Confidential materials can be destroyed at your premises using a mobile shredding service where available. This can suit organisations that want documents destroyed before they leave the site or require staff to witness the destruction process.
Off-site shredding
Documents are stored in secure containers until collection, then transported through the agreed secure chain to a specialist destruction facility.
Collection of paper you’ve already shredded
If your organisation securely destroys documents itself, we can arrange collection and recycling of the shredded paper where the receiving facility accepts it. This is different from a shredding service because the original confidential document has already been destroyed before collection.
What happens to paper after shredding?
After secure destruction, suitable shredded paper can be sent for fibre recycling. It may be baled or otherwise prepared for a paper reprocessor, where the recovered fibre is used to manufacture new paper or card products.
Acceptance depends on the paper grade and contamination, so not every shredded material follows the same route.
Shredded waste filters and paper are usually separated into their natural components, where the recyclable material will be taken away to be reused. Some shredded paper may be sent to industrial compost sites where it’s added to large piles of organic waste, regularly turned, and decomposes to create a natural fertiliser.
Data shredding and media destruction
Business Waste can also arrange data shredding services for physical media that stores confidential information, including hard drives, SSDs, USB drives, CDs, DVDs and backup tapes where secure physical destruction is required.
Physical destruction is not the only appropriate route for electronic data. If equipment or storage media will be reused, verified secure wiping may be more suitable. Depending on the media and security requirement, options can include wiping, degaussing or specialist hardware shredding.
Tell us what media you have, and the correct destruction method can be confirmed.
Any shredded metal that contains sensitive data (like a hard drive) can also be recycled. After collection, it’s sorted into different base metals. These metals then pass through a furnace to ensure any impurities are removed. Following this process, the base metals are melted down into ingots, which can then be used to create new metal products.

Shredding services FAQs
-
Can shredding waste be recycled?
Most shredded waste can be recycled. The majority of shredded waste is paper, wood, or plastic, which can usually be recycled, melted, or ground down to make new products. For example, shredded wood can be recycled into MDF that can be used again in the construction business. Paper can be ground to become a multitude of things, including recyclable paper cups and straws.
-
What type of industry produces shredding waste?
Many industries produce shredding waste. The material used and shredded depends on the industry. For instance, business and administration work will predominantly produce shredded paper waste, which should be disposed of responsibly when it’s documents containing highly sensitive information.
