What are
commercial bin bags?
Commercial waste bags are simply plastic bin bags that you can use to store general and recyclable waste your business produces. They’re similar to domestic bin bags and available in a wide range of colours to make sorting, separating, and storing different waste types simple. Our waste disposal bags are made from polythene and durable to hold various waste streams.
For businesses that produce clinical waste, there are also a range of specific waste disposal bags for storing and removing such refuse. These include:
Trade waste bag sizes
Waste collection bags are available in sizes from 40 to 80 litres. 40L bin bags are often used for household waste but can be good for any small amounts of rubbish your business produces. 80L bin bags are more heavy duty and better for storing general waste and recyclable materials.
The standard commercial waste bag size is 39” (99cm) in height and 18” (45cm) wide. Weight limits vary depending on the size of commercial bin bag and type of waste you put in it. Often this is around 5kg but check with our team first to avoid incurring any overweight charges.
Why do I need
waste disposal bags?
Commercial waste sacks can be used in certain areas when there are local by-laws preventing bins from being collected or where space is a premium. Should your business not have space on its premises to store wheelie bins, skips, or any other type of bin, then using bags may be the next best option.
For collection you also need to place your commercial waste in an accessible pickup point. In some cases restrictions, narrow roads, and other obstacles may mean our licensed waste carriers will struggle or be unable to move bins through to their vehicles. In such an instance, using waste disposal bags might be more manageable.
However, it depends on the waste type and amount you produce, as certain waste streams must be stored in appropriate bins. Speak to one of our expert team, and they can advise whether you need or are able to use waste disposal bags for your refuse storage and removal.
If you’re getting rid of compactable waste such as cardboard recycling, it’s unlikely you’ll need any waste management disposal bags. In most cases, with dry mixed recycling and single streams like paper, plastic, and wood recycling, you can just store these kinds of refuse straight in the appropriate bin.
Waste bags and Simpler Recycling
Since 31 March 2025, workplaces in England with 10 or more full-time staff must separate food waste, dry recyclable materials and general waste before collection. Smaller businesses with fewer than 10 staff have until 31 March 2027 to adhere to Simpler Recycling regulations.
Commercial waste bags can support this setup where there is limited space for bins or local restrictions apply. Use separate, clearly labelled bags for each agreed waste stream, and never place food waste loose in general waste or dry recycling sacks.

What can you put in

They’re commonly used by businesses to hold general waste, but you can also use them for various dry recyclable waste types. For hazardous, dangerous, and clinical waste there are specific clinical waste bags to use.
