Waste Collection

Our capital is known as the “city that never sleeps” – and we recognise that this means many businesses will have the need for services at any time of day and night, not just during conventional office hours. We can offer all types of waste collections 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our friendly, professional and experienced staff will collect any type of waste – taking the hassle away from your business. Business Waste also offers handy equipment to local businesses, such as skips, roll-on roll-off bins, wheelie bins and recycling bins. Southwark has a huge number of food businesses and restaurants, and food waste that is left out in urban environments for longer than it should creates a health hazard and attracts pests such as rats and foxes. Our friendly team is on hand any time of day or night to collect your perishable waste before it becomes dangerous to local residents and passers-by.

Waste Disposal

Southwark has a large number of office buildings around its centre, particularly around the tube station vicinity between Southwark and Waterloo. We can help businesses meet Southwark’s ambitious recycling expectations, helping you to sort waste and providing various equipment that makes recycling an easy task for your staff, such as colour-coded bins, wheelie bins and skips. There are many different products that can be recycled easily and safely; get in touch with us to find out how we can help you maximise your recycling potential.

Situated in south London, the Borough of Southwark is popular thanks to its proximity to the city centre and nearby attractions such as the Embankment, Waterloo’s south bank and the Southwark Playhouse theatre. In recent years, the area has undergone a large scale regeneration project to redevelop its facilities and housing, and today more than 30,000 people call Southwark home. Southwark is now a highly sought-after area to live, and residents enjoy easy links to the City and the West End through the modernised Jubilee Line, which was also recently part of Transport for London’s 24-hour tube initiative. Around its world-famous London Bridge area, there are a huge variety of restaurants and new developments clustered around the recently-built Shard; thanks to attractions like the Shard, Southwark Cathedral and the London Bridge Experience, Southwark has become one of London’s premier tourist hotspots.

  • Can I add an additional bin to my service?

Yes, of course. We can provide extra bins for new waste streams to encourage recycling. Or if you’re simply producing more waste of the same type, we can add an extra or larger bin to your delivery and collection services if you’re at capacity.

  • Do you supply a duty of care certificate?

Yes, we provide a duty of care certificate (also known as a waste transfer note (WTN)) free of charge as part of your service agreement. This is included for free every time we collect any type of waste from your premises. Duty of care certificates are a legal requirement and licensed waste carriers can complete them for free – so you should never be charged for one.

Find out more about them in our guide to waste transfer notes.

  • How often will my bin be emptied?

We offer our customers a choice of daily, weekly, or fortnightly collections – so your bins are emptied as often as you want. Our expert team can advise on the correct waste collection schedule based on the type and amount of waste you produce and your business needs – such as your bin storage space and location.

  • What time will my bin be collected?

Bin collection times vary depending on your location, waste type, number and size of bins, and other factors. We work with all our customers to ensure your waste is always collected on time when it’s suitable for you and the licensed waste carrier. We can work around access times to arrange collections at convenient times.

  • What type of wheelie bins are available?

A range of two and four-wheel bins are available to store all sorts of waste on your premises. Explore our bins to see all available bins and information about what types and amounts of waste they can hold.

For any questions and answers about wheelie bin weight limits, sizes, locks, and anything else – read our bin FAQ guide.

  • How can we reduce our waste?

There are many ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce as individuals and businesses. A waste audit can highlight where you’re producing lots of waste as a starting place to cut down. Simple steps to reduce waste include efficient purchasing, buying reusable products, and recycling as much as possible. For more tips, read our guide about how to reduce waste.

If you have specific questions about reducing a certain type of waste, find the relevant page in Your Waste.

  • Do you collect any type of waste?

  • Is Business Waste ISO certified?

Yes, Business Waste has received Alcumus ISOQAR certification for:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – Quality management systems
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental management systems

These are both in the scope of registration for the provision of waste management brokerage.

  • What is ISO certification and why is it important?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental group that uses experts to set global standards for providing innovation and solutions to worldwide challenges. ISO certification confirms a management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure meets the requirements for standardisation and quality assurance.

ISO certification is provided by a third party – in our case Alcumus ISOQAR, which provides UKAS accredited ISO certification. The standards provide benchmarks for businesses to meet, ensuring achieving ISO certification demonstrates a well-run, stable business that’s ready to grow. There are more than 20,000 management standards, but the two we’ve achieved provide the following benefits:

    • ISO 9001: 2015 – helps put our customers first.
    • ISO 14001: 2015 – reduces our environmental impact.
