County Durham
County Durham is widely renowned as an area of outstanding beauty in the UK, not just for its natural landscape but for its stunning architecture and ancient buildings – most notably the world-famous Durham Cathedral. Yet the area offers more than just picturesque views – ever popular with students thanks to the renowned university, the city of Durham also boasts a thriving economy, which is set to welcome an increasing number of new people and businesses to the area.
Durham has been at the forefront of massive growth in businesses in recent years, particularly when it comes to manufacturing. A specific plan has been put into place for manufacturers to help them to grow and take advantage of some of the new developments in the county, such as the new £82m facility from Hitachi Europe. With new plans being made and investment coming into the area, the number of businesses and the size of existing companies is set to rise drastically in the region in the coming years.
Trust
Business Waste
But more businesses means an increased demand on the services and supply chains on which they depend. One area where this has become a particular problem is waste management in County Durham. As new businesses come in and waste services decrease due to funding cuts, it is more important than ever for local businesses to find a way to dispose of their trade waste effectively, legally and ethically.

Question?
-
Can I add an additional bin to my service?
Yes, of course. We can provide extra bins for new waste streams to encourage recycling. Or if you’re simply producing more waste of the same type, we can add an extra or larger bin to your delivery and collection services if you’re at capacity.
-
Do you supply a duty of care certificate?
Yes, we provide a duty of care certificate (also known as a waste transfer note (WTN)) free of charge as part of your service agreement. Duty of care certificates are a legal requirement and licensed waste carriers can complete them for free – so you should never be charged for one.
Find out more about them in our guide to waste transfer notes.

We can work around access times to arrange collections at convenient times.

Is Business Waste ISO certified?
Yes, Business Waste has received Alcumus ISOQAR certification for:
- ISO 9001: 2015 – Quality management systems
- ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental management systems
These are both in the scope of registration for the provision of waste management brokerage.
-
What is ISO certification and why is it important?
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental group that uses experts to set global standards for providing innovation and solutions to worldwide challenges. ISO certification confirms a management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure meets the requirements for standardisation and quality assurance.
ISO certification is provided by a third party – in our case Alcumus ISOQAR, which provides UKAS accredited ISO certification. The standards provide benchmarks for businesses to meet, ensuring achieving ISO certification demonstrates a well-run, stable business that’s ready to grow. There are more than 20,000 management standards, but the two we’ve achieved provide the following benefits:
- ISO 9001: 2015 – helps put our customers first.
- ISO 14001: 2015 – reduces our environmental impact.
