Wrexham Borough Council have launched the on-the-go recycling campaign

Wrexham Borough Council has introduced a new ‘Every Can Counts’ campaign to make it easier for locals to recycle aluminium cans on the streets of Wrexham.

The ‘Every Can Counts’ campaign aims to get people recycling their cans, which are 100% recyclable, while on the move and at work; one of the initiative’s motto “from a can to a can in just six weeks” highlights the value of recycling empty aluminium cans instead of sending them off to landfill. The nationwide campaign works in partnership with drink manufacturers who produce fresh cans from the used cans.

Wrexham Borough Council have installed six green, can-shaped bins at key locations around the northern Wales town. Wrexham residents and visitors will now find a ‘Every Can Counts’ recycling bin near Waterworld, Alyn Waters Country Park, Llwyn Isaf, Tŷ Mawr Country Park, and outside the Housing, Public Protection and Environment Department building.

If the campaign proves as successful as the council hopes it to be, more of the eye-catching bins will be placed around the town, as councillors try to increase the “very limited ‘on-the-go’ street recycling bins for cans, bottles and paper”.

The campaign launch comes as the council attempts to keep ahead of its current and future recycling targets. Last year proved a positive one for the district, with a recycling rate of almost 55%, but the council must meet the higher target of 58% in 2016. Like many councils throughout the country, Wrexham City Council is working steadily towards a greener future, as the EU puts the pressure on recycling rates.
