Sussex Waste Management

At Business Waste, we look after your waste management and provide waste collection routes across Sussex to ensure the smooth running of your business.

A rural and historic county within south east England, Sussex is made up of densely populated coastal plains along the county edge, rolling chalk hills in the South Downs and wooded areas throughout Sussex Weald. In 2011 the population was at 1,609,500.

It is thought that the ‘Kingdom of Sussex’ was first established in AD 477 and it has since been home to a number of historic events, including Roman invasions and the Battle of Hastings.

Rich in culture and history, Sussex is bordered in the west by Hampshire. To the north sits Surrey, Kent lies in the north east and to the south is the English Channel. The local government has divided Sussex up into East Sussex, West Sussex, as well as the city of Brighton and Hove. Sussex is also home to the city of Chichester.

In 2014, Sussex was one of the worst performers in the UK for recycling. Since then, the county has been working hard to establish better practices when it comes to waste reduction and waste management.

Advice is given out throughout the county about ways to reduce unnecessary waste, including reducing your impact on the environment with your packed lunch (e.g. wrap sandwiches in reusable bags and use a flask instead of buying new plastic bottles each day) and cutting down on junk mail.

There are around 21 billion items sent out each year in direct mail, door-to-door adverts and newspaper inserts – equating to approximately 550,000 tonnes of paper. Sussex is aiming to cut down on this to help protect the planet, and it is something your business can likewise start to curb in an attempt to save paper waste.

Please note: We’re unable to offer household waste collection or tipping services. Please see the residential waste hub section at the bottom of this page for help with this.
