The new service designed to make on-line registration quicker and easier
The Environment Agency introduced a new digital service in March this year and almost 10,000 business waste exemptions have already been registered.
The Agency designed the service to make on-line registration ‘easier, quicker and more efficient’ and urges more businesses, farmers and landowners to use the service to register.
Those businesses that only deal with small amounts of waste, or ‘low risk’ waste, such as tyres and agricultural material, can register for a free waste exemption, as long as they satisfy the required limits, instead of having to pay a yearly fee for an environmental permit.
An exemption permit is valid for up to three years and a large number of exemptions are set to expire this October. The old e-form and paper alternatives have now been replaced with the digital service to help make the practice easier for business owners and farmers.
The Environment Agency will continue to gather feedback from people using the on-line registration service, to make sure that it carries on working in the best possible way for businesses.
The deputy director of site-based regulation at the Environment Agency, Nicky Cunningham, said: “As we get ready to receive thousands of waste exemption registrations this summer, we are recommending farmers, landowners and businesses to submit online using our improved, easy-to-use, service.”
