Councils step up their act in Green bid

Posted on:

With the government continually pushing for a greener environment and an environmentally friendly UK, it is only natural that many councils up and down the country are serving up initiatives and new rulings to help us all cut back on the amount we waste.

Similarly, many local authorities are offering more recycling and waste management services in a bid to clean up areas and project a new image. This is evident in the Midlands as Normanton Neighbourhood Board has announced that large domestic waste will be collected from the area’s homes once a week as they look to clean up the area.

Bulky waste in particular is being targeted and the board has said that it will fund the free collections that will take place on Fridays. The scheme will include the free removal of items such as fridges and sofas, which would normally cost people money and cause problems when it comes to disposing of them correctly.

In order for the items to be collected however, residents must inform the board in good time and make a booking so that collection can take place. After this, a collection date for goods will then be issued, with residents asked to leave out the items for collection before 6.30am on the agreed day.
