Cheshire household recycling up as new silver bin is used

Posted on:

Cheshire East found a silver lining when they decided on an all-in-one household waste collection system.

They asked residents to place all recyclables in a silver bin and it has worked so well that Cheshire East is now the second best performing borough in the north west – and in the top 50 nationally – when it comes to recycling.

Latest figures show that 52.9 per cent of household waste – 3.9 per cent up on the previous year – is now being either recycled, re-used or composted.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East said: ‘The impressive figures are largely down to the introduction of the all-in-one silver bin system in 2011. The system simplifies recycling for residents by asking them to place all recyclables in one bin which is collected fortnightly.

Councillor David ToppingResidual household waste collections are made on the alternate week.’ Said Councillor David Topping, the Cabinet member in charge of the environment: “These figures are excellent news and I would like to thank residents for working with us to make Cheshire East a cleaner and greener place to live.”
