A businessman has been fined in court after dumping waste on a residential pavement
An Orpington man has appeared in Bromley Magistrates’ Court after being prosecuted by Bromley Council for fly-tipping bags of household rubbish at the side of a road.
The owner of Move with Morley removal company based in Orpington, Daniel Morley, has been found guilty of fly-tipping offences after Bromley Council officers were able to trace a pile of dumped rubbish (which had been left on a pedestrian pavement) back to the business owner.
Morley dumped six large bags of waste in Homesdale Road, Bromley. Investigating officers from the council were able to trace the waste to its former owner who had hired Move with Morley to dispose of their household waste following a house removal. The fly-tipped waste consisted of household waste, including a briefcase and textiles.
The Orpington businessman appeared in Bromley Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the offence. Bromley magistrates ordered Morley to pay costs and fines totalling £3,878.
Bromley councillor Kate Lymer, Executive Member for Public Protection and Safety, said that the council is specifically targeting traders who flout the regulations surrounding waste disposal. She advised residents to be careful when choosing a waste removal company.
A spokesperson for Bromley Council said: “Businesses and residents have a duty of care to dispose of their waste responsibly or they could face a substantial fine or court action under the Environment Protection Act 1990.”
