Residents out of work in a Lincolnshire town have now been given cause to celebrate after it was announced that planning permission has been granted for a new recycling transfer station, which could create nearly 40 additional jobs, two of which are key posts of a contracts manager and an administrator.
The site, which is located on Brigg Road in Scunthorpe, is to be turned into a collection and recycling hub after SITA UK was awarded the area’s kerbside collection and recycling contract.
Previously an auctioneering house for industrial plant and machinery, the site will now be used to store waste. When a sufficient stock of waste has been built up, it can then be transferred to re-processing plants.
However, it has been made quite clear that material which passes through the site will be restricted to pre-sorted household recyclables such as paper, cardboard, cans, glass and plastics. The only way that any other materials will be accepted is if prior written permission has been granted by the local council. In addition, the site will not be allowed to open on bank holidays or Sundays.
