And take third place in the UK’s popular “Ready, Set, Recycle” challenge

A group of scouts from Aberystwyth have been named the top recyclers in Wales and have also taken third place in the UK’s “Ready, Set, Recycle” challenge.

The 17 members of the 3rd Aberystwyth Scouts troop enthusiastically managed to recycle an amazing 5,241 items during the 12 week period of the challenge, meaning that each member successfully recycled more than 300 items each.

The popular ‘Ready, Set, Recycle’ challenge is run in partnership by The Scout Association and Recycle for Wales. It sees scouting youngsters from across the UK competing to recycle the most card, paper, plastic, glass and metal packaged items they can find at their homes.

Every week, the troops excitedly went to the challenge website, which was designed specially for the occasion and submitted their recycling accomplishments.

A number of other troops in Wales managed to achieve high recycling marks, including the 3rd Aberystwyth Cubs in Ceredigion, 1st Wenvoe Beavers in Vale of Glamorgan and the 7th Caerphilly Scouts.

The 3rd Aberystwyth Scout troop won a day at The Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, Powys, finding out more about the journey their recycling takes after it has been collected.

Each member also got a Recycle for Wales goodie bag full of useful items for scouting adventure days.
